A lot has been written about Botox injections and Botox treatments over the years, with many celebrities claiming that the beauty treatments have had a big impact on their appearance. Actress Kelly Ripa, for example, now the host of Live! With Kelly and Michael, has told interviewers that the treatments have changed her life. While there are many procedures available, there are a few features that make Botox injections appealing to actresses like Kelly Ripa.

Less Time in the Makeup Chair

Everyone who appears on television needs to spend time in the makeup chair. In fact, this can be a very time consuming process, as minor blemishes and lines are carefully hidden under makeup. For Kelly Ripa, Botox injections have allowed her to get her morning routine shortened by half. According to the television host, Botox has prevented her hair and makeup time for her show from becoming a big ritual, making the beauty treatment her favorite.

Fighting the Signs of Aging

In the 1940s and through the 1950s, television and film cameras were not very advanced and actresses could disguise the signs of aging by having cameramen smear Vaseline on camera lenses to create a slightly “out of focus” effect that softened lines and imperfections. Today, harsh lights in a television studio coupled with advanced technology in cameras mean that even minor imperfections can show up. Kelly Ripa has told interviewers that getting Botox injections has helped, since Botox helps to eliminate the signs of aging, especially around her eyes.

Botox injections Help Stop Sweating

While Botox is mainly known as a way to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, it can also help prevent sweating. Kelly Ripa has told reporters that this is also one reason why she gets the injections every seven months or so. In addition to getting Botox treatments for her face, she has the injections in her armpits to prevent embarrassing sweat stains on television. The treatments work by blocking the release of a chemical that allows nerve cells to communicate. With the injections, the nerve endings cannot send messages to cells to produce sweat.

Create a Natural Look with Botox

Just as high-definition television cameras can pick up small flaws, they can also highlight obvious and heavy makeup, making it look caked on. It’s just one reason why actresses and celebrities tend to favor Botox injections over simply concealing flaws. Kelly Ripa actually credits the treatments for helping her to create a natural look. She says that by using “moderation” when using the treatments, she is able to achieve a more youthful look without looking surprised or unnatural.

Botox has been used in the medical community since the 1980s to treat muscle conditions. By the 1990s, however, it was being used for cosmetic purposes too. In fact, the beauty treatment, which is injected into the skin, not only takes care of the signs of aging, but can actually prevent new wrinkles from forming as it temporarily freezes the tiny muscles under the skin. Like many celebrities in the spotlight, Keely Ripa credits Botox injections with making her life easier.
