Recently, Allure magazine conducted a survey regarding aging. 2,000 people, male and female, were asked about the various aspects of aging. It is no wonder an astounding number of people desire to look younger, women in particular. While this has commonly been a factor in society for decades, Allure’s recent survey revealed just how far some people are willing to go to maintain their youth.

Survey Says

To find out how a number of people feel about aging, Allure questioned people about topics like changing looks, plastic surgery, and sex. Naturally, the men and women who took part in this plastic surgery study agreed that women were more pressured in maintaining their youthful looks. Another common answer throughout this survey was that on average, men and women’s ideal age is 31. After that peak age, a shocking 42% of women are more likely to consider plastic surgery to keep up with their looks. This statistic, as compared to the 18% of men who would consider plastic surgery, reinforces the fact that society is harder on women regarding plastic surgery and their appearance as they age.

Survey Shockers

Of course, there were some shocking answers throughout the course of this plastic surgery study. For instance, when asked what was more feared, death or looking old, more people answered “neither” than choosing one over the other. When it came to the topic of plastic surgery, Allure discovered that 1% of the men and women surveyed had previously received some type of laser treatments or injections, even plastic surgery. Even more shocking, 30% of the people asked who answered that they had not had any treatments said they would consider them at a later time. Again, all of this reinforces the importance of appearances to us as we as human beings age.

Millennial Thoughts

This plastic surgery study conducted by Allure made it very clear that plastic surgery has become important for many people when it comes to maintaining the look of youth. This survey also made clear the fact that respondents in the age bracket of 18 to 29 years of age, also known as Millennials, observed a very negative opinion of certain celebrities who opted for plastic surgery, as opposed to the older population who answered the same question. Understandably so, a younger reader may respond to this survey in that fashion because exactly that – she is young, and is not yet facing the challenge of aging. More likely than not, those opinions will change as their looks change and their youth begins to fade.

As it has always been, plastic surgery will continue to play a vital role in the battle against aging. People’s thoughts and opinions on the matter will also change right along with it. Overall, what you do to your body is your own business, and other people’s considerations should not matter. Remember, do not fear the idea of aging – embrace it, and make it your own.
