In the past few years, the demand for plastic surgery among women has escalated dramatically. As many as 20% of women who were interviewed in a study that was recently conducted by Real Self have stated that they are seriously considering having some form of plastic surgery or even other less invasive cosmetic enhancement procedures performed at their earliest convenience. More than 5,000 women in the United States took part in the study.

A Means of Boosting Self Esteem

When questioned during the recent plastic surgery study, the age group that was most dissatisfied with at least one aspect of their appearances was those aged 55 – 64. The main body parts that these women were unhappy with included turkey necks, droopy rear ends, under-eye bags, sagging stomachs and sagging breasts. Many of them felt that addressing these particular issues by means of plastic surgery would not only help improve their overall appearance; it would go a long way in helping to boost their self-esteem and confidence levels at the same time.

Various Age Groups Affected

Although 85% of women over 50 expressed dissatisfaction with their appearances, it did not mean that younger generations were happy with what they saw when looking in the mirror. Almost 90% of women in their 20s and 30s were more determined than any other age group to opt for having numerous procedures performed in some cases. Overall results from the study showed that the demand for all forms of plastic surgery has increased dramatically over the past few years, which shows just how many more women are realizing that there is absolutely no shame whatsoever in wanting to enhance various aspects of their appearances by means of surgery.

Record Increases in Procedures Performed

Reuters recently released a report in which poll results from the American Academy of Facial, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery showed that as many as 2,700 of its licensed members noted that they had experienced significant increases in requests for hair transplant procedures and nose enhancement surgeries. According to most physicians, one of the main factors driving requests for these procedures was the way in which patients perceived their overall appearance when taking selfies or appearing on social media accounts.

A Hefty but Worthwhile Price Tag

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery also reported a 12% increase in plastic surgeries in 2014 compared to the year before. Board-certified plastic surgeons performed more than 11 million procedures in the US alone during that time. Overall, the total cost for all of the procedures performed totaled as much as $12 billion. Although the cost of particular procedures prevents many women from having them carried out, it seems like money is no object for others who go on to have numerous procedures performed.

Although most forms of plastic surgery are expensive and often not covered by health plans, many women are willing to do everything possible to improve their appearances – with more than 90% of them being completely satisfied with the end results. In cases like these, it can be said that paying for procedures that will help improve confidence can definitely be classified as money well-spent.
