Clinical trials have been run on a new topical product to help reduce double-chin. Topokine Therapeutics, a drug company out of Boston, is working on its second phase of trial tests to secure FDA approval in order to manufacture and sell a serum that targets chin and neck fat. Producers are hoping that the treatment will replace surgery for some candidates.

Proven Safety

In any drug test, phase one is usually only used for proving safety. During round one of testing, Topokine Therapeutics was able to prove the safety of its new double chin gel. Known as XAF5, the topical treatment was applied to the subjects’ abdomens in order to test its safe use on humans. The healthy subjects showed only mild reactions to the drug. Since the formula is based on a drug that has already been approved to help shrink fat cells, scientists were not surprised that the drug fared well during the first phase of testing.

Effectiveness

Producers of XAF5 are very optimistic about its general effectiveness. Not only has the drug already been used in both breaking down and blocking the formation of fat cells previously, but it also showed results during round one of testing. Since proving effectiveness is not required during the first round of testing, it only serves as a bonus for Topokine Therapeutics. Since the company has not released the name of the actual formula being used, it is difficult to tell which drug they hope to modify. Consumers can only guess at which drugs are known to shrink and inhibit the growth of lipid cells.

Positive Animal Testing Results

Previously XAF5 was tested on animals, resulting in positive changes for the animals’ conditions. CEO of Topokine Therapeutics, Murat Kalayoglu, says that the animals in the tests displayed improvements in regards to both diabetic as well as obese conditions. Coupled with the fact that the original serum had positive results both in and out of the lab, this information makes Topokine Therapeutics even more positive that their product will be a safe and reliable body shaping tool.

Superior Alternative to Current Methods

One of the things that the company is banking on for the new topical product’s success is that it will be a superior alternative to current methods of double-chin treatment. Until now, double-chin serums have had to be injected in a local site in order to treat the flabby flesh, which is both uncomfortable and inconvenient for many people. A gel that can be applied will be much more accessible to a larger crowd, enabling even those who have needle aversions to treat their double-chin fat without suffering from any discomfort.

A common concern regarding the serum is that fat will simply travel elsewhere in the body, but lab testing in animals has so far not resulted in this side effect. More conclusive evidence is necessary during the second phase of trial testing to ensure that the gel is an effective fat-removing product. Once phase two is complete, the serum may be available on the market very quickly.
