A few weeks ago we wrote about Barbie Botox.  Thank you to all who wrote to us and those who asked to hear our thoughts about Ken. So here are 6 Ken Kare (yes! I know it’s with a C) musts from head to toe.

1. Hair rejuvenation

There are so many over-the-counter regimens for hair growth. And different people will swear by different products.  We're here to tell you about 2 procedures that stand the test of time, hair transplant and PRP (platelet-rich plasma), which is the miracle growth for hair, helping sustain hair transplant placement and thickening of the actual hair. PRP treatment is a three-step medical treatment in which a person’s blood is drawn, processed, and then injected into the scalp. There's significant data to show that PRP injections trigger natural hair growth and maintain it by increasing blood supply to the hair follicles thus increasing hair shaft thickness and encouraging hair growth in general.

So, if you've only just started thinning out PRP could be the treatment that can help maintain the youthful head of your teens. But, if you're further along and want a full head of hair and/or eyebrows, our hair transplant experts at The Spiegel Center can help remove individual hairs from the back or side of your head and place them one by one where you need them. This procedure has become popular in Turkey, otherwise called follicular unit extraction (or FUE), and some people travel there but quality can vary with aggressive overseas surgeons. They can take out too many hairs at once leading to problems.  Our expertise permits us to take the right number of hairs to get best coverage in all areas. This in-office hair restoration treatment is done with great precision with just local anesthesia applied to the scalp, while you sit comfortably listening to your favorite podcast or music. (P.S. Have you checked out the Podcast of the year—PSST, Plastic Surgery Secrets Talk?

Our hair grafting team will remove hairs where you have them in excess and place them where you want them. Nearly 25% of men start to see hair loss as early as 21, with the percentage increasing to 66% by age 35, and almost 85% for those 50 years and older. FYI, hair transplant and PRP are not lost on women, as almost 50% of women experience some type of hair loss by the time they reach 50.

2. Undoing 11s and forehead lines with Botulinum, aka Botox, or what’s often referred to as BroTox.

In simple terms, Botox is a chemical compound that can be used to weaken select muscles for a temporary period, typically 3-6 months. Botox and its sister compounds (Dysport,  Daxxify,  Jeuveau, and Xeomin) are injected in controlled amounts into specific areas of the face, typically around the eyes, gummy smile, chin, and neck bands. We suggest that people seeking Botox should only select medical professionals with robust expertise in facial anatomy and experience if they seek natural-looking results.

Botox effectively reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and prevents deeper ones from forming. Some men use Botox preventatively, by relaxing facial muscles before they can create deep lines.

Men who undergo Botox with a board-certified doctor at The Spiegel Center look refreshed and vibrant in a natural and age-appropriate way. Botox enhances the existing attractiveness of each patient, thus helping each person look like the best possible version of themselves.

3. Get rid of under-eye hollowness or under-eye bags with tear-trough fillers.

Genetics play a significant role in the formation of under-eye circles where some people have a predisposition towards dark-eye circles that no amount of sleep or healthy lifestyle choices can prevent. Other contributing lifestyle issues like sun exposure and certain medical issues like allergies and thyroid disorders can further contribute to this. In time, the skin loses its elasticity and when this occurs in sensitive areas like the eyes it can make your whole face look older.

For under-eye hollowness or eye bags, we recommend tear-through fillers and sometimes skin-tightening procedures like IPL and Morpheus8. The Spiegel Center master injectors will place the filler carefully into the tear trough area with a very thin needle or cannula, and then follow up with a gentle massage to disperse the filler and ensure that it is evenly distributed. The whole process takes less than 30 minutes.  Many doctors, including plastic surgeons, come to the Spiegel Center for these precise treatments on themselves.

There are multiple fillers to choose from, including Restylane, Versa, and Juvederm. Each of these fillers contains hyaluronic acid, which will help keep the skin hydrated so that the eyes have a youthful and beautiful appearance.

If you are further along in age, then Eyelid lift surgery, also known as blepharoplasty or Bleph, may be a better option for you. A blepharoplasty reduces excess skin and fat from the upper and/or lower eyelids and gently tightens the muscles in the area. The aim of the procedure is not to make you look different but to make you look refreshed.

That’s the first three tips for Ken Kare…More soon!
