Man outside

Men worry about their appearances, too. It can sometimes seem, when looking at websites, blogs, and information about looking good that it is a women’s world, but, it’s simply not the case. More than ever men want to look good. They keep fit, dress sharp, and keep their hair trimmed. But, time stops for no one, and signs of aging will start to appear.

There are many areas that men may want to address. A twisted or bulbous nose may be charming on Owen Wilson, but for those of us who aren’t puckish movie stars, it’s a liability. Chipmunk cheeks, flaring ears, and a soft jawline area are all areas we can address.

However, there are three areas that are the most common concerns and sources of anxiety for men.

Do you know what they are?  It’s thinning or receding hair, aging eyelids, and loosening or sagging of the neck. These three are often the first signs of aging in men. Maybe you are starting to look more like your dad (or grandfather), and maybe you are noticing that you’re not looking the same as that new guy in the office, gym, or club.

There are several ways we help guys with their hair. These include topical preparations, PRP treatments, and hair grafts with FUE, so no long scars anywhere.  There is lots of information on these at https://www.drspiegel.com/facial-plastic-surgery-procedures-boston/hair-restoration/ For aging eyelids, similarly, there are a number of nice treatments including precise filler placement for hollows, energy treatments, and lasers to tighten the skin, eyelid tightening preparations, and quick in-office procedures to rejuvenate and help you look like your most vibrant self.  Again, lots of information on https://www.drspiegel.com/men/

But, what about the neck?  That looseness, early banding, looseness, softness, and laxity is stressful and worrisome, but there are solutions.

If the looseness is early and slight, we can tighten or relax. We relax tight muscles, such as the platysma muscle, in the neck which cause bands when you strain or lift things. This is done with a few small, quick injections of botulinum (Botox, Xeomin, Dysport, etc.). It lasts for months and can smooth out the neck in days.

For loose skin, we start with radiofrequency microneedling, such as with Morpheus 8. Energy is placed into the skin which causes steady contraction and tightening. Your skin gets new and better collagen, new elasticity, and a more youthful look. It’s done in the office with only numbing cream applied to the skin. And, you’ll look fine for back to work and activities the next day. The skin will continue to tighten over the next several months. Three treatments, 6-8 weeks apart, are the best way for a great result.

For some fullness and more looseness liposuction with energy, such as with Necktite or Embrace is a powerful answer. Here, a small poke is made under the chin, and perhaps under each earlobe after we numb the neck with local anesthetic. Then, a probe is passed under the skin to melt fat and tighten the tissues. This can give a very dramatic result. You’ll want to wear an elastic wrap around the head for a few days for the best results, and you’ll enjoy watching things get progressively better for the next 6 months. It’s a permanent improvement. You’ll keep aging, but from a better more youthful place.

Finally, when there is more fullness, more laxity, or muscle separation a neck lift is the key. It takes only about an hour, leaves a small well-hidden scar under the chin or behind the ears, and is the gold standard for a more youthful neck and jawline. There’s no reason to worry about a loose neck because the answer is here and likely easier than you thought!
