How is Erbium Yag Laser Performed?

Specific target areas are identified by the doctor in consultation with you. It’s time to point out all the fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, brown spots, and pigmentated areas you don’t like. Anesthetic creams, local anesthesia, or nerve blocks will make sure that the procedure is pain free. Then, we protect your eyes with special glasses and the procedure begins. You’ll hear some beeping sounds from the laser, but otherwise it’s a quiet and peaceful experience.

What Should I Expect?

Because your new skin can be extra sun sensitive after words, laser treatments are often preferentially performed in the fall and winter months. A good sunscreen is recommended after words (and before too). Remember, this is a stronger treatment and bigger changes come with bigger recovery. You can expect a period of red or raw skin. Healing will be quickest in a moist environment. Dr. Spiegel recommends using skin cleaning soaks with cool water followed by coverage with the appropriate ointments. You’ll learn all about this in your consultation with the doctor. Suffice to say, you’ll want to keep your face greasy for a while so it’s not time for your best pillow cases. Though laser patients may experience pain and swelling for the first few days, prolonged discomfort or significant pain is very unusual. Redness of the skin will last for several weeks, but you may be able to cover up with makeup after your follow up consultation.
