What Is Electrolysis?

Electrolysis is a form of permanent hair removal. It is performed using a special probe that emits a mild energy current. The probe is delicately inserted along the hair follicle and then the current is released. This energy emitted by the probe destroys the hair follicle, thus permanently preventing hair from growing in the area. It’s a precise and skilled procedure.

Is Electrolysis Painful?

There is no joy when it comes to addressing our unwanted body hair. Most of the available methods are uncomfortable or painful, like shaving, plucking, and waxing. Laser reduction works well, but not for all hair types or colors. Lasers need contrast, so if you have light hair on light skin or dark hair on dark skin results may be unsatisfactory.

When you know you have areas where you want to be hair-free forever, a permanent hair-removal option like electrolysis is the answer. At The Spiegel Center, we can eliminate the struggle that comes with constantly managing unwanted hair. We do everything we can to make the experience as smooth and pain-free as possible.

Why Do I Need Multiple Treatments?

Hair Growth Stages

It is important to know that hair growth occurs in stages. First is the growing phase, followed by the resting phase, and finally, the shedding phase. Electrolysis only works on hairs that are currently in the growth phase. Note: all the hairs in one area of the body are not going to be in the same phase at the same time. So if only one treatment is performed, only the hairs that are currently in the growth cycle will be affected.

Treatment Timing

The timing of your treatments are planned to address the hairs during their growth phase. Performing electrolysis over a series of treatments allows electrolysis to work properly and target all the hairs in the area, making your results much more consistent. The number of treatments depends on the area you are looking to have hair-free.

Is Electrolysis Right For Me?

Electrolysis is an FDA-approved treatment that is safe to use on all skin types and colors as well as all hair types. It is a safe and effective option for getting rid of your unwanted hair in numerous areas, including the following and almost anywhere else you don’t want hair.

  • Upper face
  • Lips
  • Chin
  • Jawline
  • Arms
  • Chest
  • Underarms
  • Abdomen
  • Legs
  • Feet
  • Genitals

LVE (Large Volume Electrolysis)

Do you have significant areas of hair that need removal?  Many patients including transgender patients opt for a hair removal process involving two electrologists at once known as LVE. LVE reduces the overall amount of visits you may need to make for electrolysis by doubling the work performed with two electrologists working on your problem areas at once. Additionally, if you are a person that would require a more significant amount of electrolysis, LVE may be a convenient option for you.

What To Expect

The sensation produced by electrolysis is comparable to laser therapy. While some find the process to be tolerable, others may experience discomfort, particularly in sensitive or very hairy areas. This is where The Spiegel Center is different. As a medical facility, we are able to provide anesthesia to make the entire procedure comfortable and pain-free. Many different levels of anesthesia are available to suit your needs and medical history. We don’t think electrolysis needs to hurt, and at The Spiegel Center, it doesn’t!
