Breast Augmentation Boston

Breast augmentation, also referred to as augmentation mammoplasty, provides women who are unhappy with the size or shape of their breasts a way to enhance and improve their appearance. While the majority of people are looking for bigger breasts, sometimes people are focused on improving the symmetry or shape of their breasts. The overall goal is to enhance the breasts in a way that complements the individual’s shape and curves, and personality. At The Spiegel Center, we offer breast augmentation in Boston for women who want to feel confident and comfortable with the appearance of their breasts.

Personalizing Your Breast Augmentation

There are a variety of ways we personalize your breast augmentation, including customizing the implant shape, size, and texture and carefully selecting the location and the type of surgical approach. Breast implants come in a variety of shapes. Some implants are rounder and help to enhance the appearance of the cleavage, while others may have a more teardrop shape for a more natural-looking slope and appearance.

Which material is best for me? There are three basic types of implant materials:

  • Saline breast implants
  • Silicone breast implants
  • Cohesive silicone gel, also known as gummy or gummy bear breast implants.

Saline implants are filled with salt water. These can be inserted through the smallest incision and the size can be individually modified. Many people now feel that the gummy bear implants are the most natural with regards to how they look and move when your body is in motion.

Breast Augmentation Approach and Incision Options

The type of incision used for your breast augmentation can also have a big impact on the end results. Some incisions make it easier to insert and place the implants, while others may be better for concealing any post-surgical marks. Our expert doctors will go over all of the breast augmentation incision options available to you during your breast augmentation consultation in Boston.

Options for incision type include:

  • Periareolar (made around the edges of the areola, or nipple complex)
  • Inframammary (made within the natural crease underneath the breast)
  • Transaxillary (made through the armpit)
  • Transumbilical (made through the bellybutton)

Breast Implants Before & After

The Surgery

Breast augmentation is typically performed under general anesthesia. The length of the procedure varies from patient to patient but can be as short as one to two hours.

At The Spiegel Center we listen carefully to your individual needs so that the perfect plan can be created. Implants are placed above or beneath the muscle based on what will work best for you and your lifestyle. We also typically use a Keller Funnel to allow for the smallest possible breast augmentation scar. We’re experts in creating small, well-hidden incisions so only your beauty shows. Once the implants have been inserted into the breasts, they will be carefully adjusted into the correct position to ensure that the final results look and feel just right. The small incisions will then be sutured closed and dressed.

Recovering from Your Breast Augmentation

After your breast augmentation, you may experience swelling, bruising, and mild soreness or discomfort. These issues will soon dissipate over the next few days. Discomfort and pain can be managed using the prescription medication that will be available. You will need to wear a special surgical bra during the first part of your recovery. The bra provides important support while the breasts are still tender and healing.

It will take some time to see the full results. While the majority of swelling disappears quickly, some can remain for longer. There may be a feeling of tightness around the breasts for a few weeks, and the implants may look a bit too high on the chest. Over time, the breasts tissues will relax and heal, eventually taking on a more natural and attractive appearance.

And, did you know that breast augmentation can often be done at the same time as other surgical procedures? Many of our patients choose to use their surgical time to improve several aspects of their appearance.
