I am IN LOVE with the results! Throughout it all, his team was very respectful, kind, communicative, and warm. Through this whole process, I wasn't misgendered once, which was wonderful. Dr. Spiegel is a true master and one of the leaders in FFS for trans women. You can't be in better hands. I also got breast augmentation with Dr. Shektman at the same time and am very happy with my results. One thing to note is that the procedure costs a ton of money. If I wasn't lucky enough to have compatible insurance, I would not have been able to afford the procedure (and I'm also a doctor!). I had jaw contouring, lower lid blepharoplasty, lip lift, and a chin revision, and am overjoyed with my results so far! Recovery was exactly as Dr Spiegel described and had gone quite smoothly. The staff at The Spiegel center are all wonderful, especially my patient care coordinator Uzma, who was not just helpful but caring and a delight to work with! The only hitch in my surgery was that I was delayed in arriving at the surgery center (in the same building as Dr Spiegel’s clinic - super convenient!) by an entire hour (totally my fault!). Instead of rescheduling me they expedited my pre-op care and everything continued without a problem. This took me from a virtual panic attack to massive relief. I cannot imagine other places & practitioners being so accommodating. These are just lovely people who do a great job and care about their patients. I will be returning for another procedure with Dr Spiegel soon with a feeling of total confidence. Update: since posting this I have had several more surgeries with Dr Spiegel - deep plane facelift, vocal feminization surgery - and each one has reinforced my opinion that Dr Spiegel and his team are the best in the business. As before, my healing was uncomplicated, the good doctor delivered exactly what he said he would, and I couldn't be happier with the results! His bedside manner is wonderful, his staff are amazing people, and his attention to detail and quality of his work is incredible. I'm still healing from my surgery so I'm going to have to check back later and edit this review, but I am already impressed with the initial results as my brow ridge that has bothered me for quite some time now is completely gone and that has helped alleviate some of my dysphoria. His patient coordinator Carole is lovely. She treated my wife and I more like good friends than patients. Initially, I only wanted a nose job but decided to get facial feminization after talking with Dr. Spiegel. I was extremely nervous - I wanted to continue to look like myself but feminine, which I thought was a tall order. The result? I got exactly what I wanted, just better than I could have imagined. My wife, co-workers and others have gushed over how I look. I'm happy with the outcome and no longer have to worry about passing. :) I would recommend Dr. Spiegel to anyone considering plastic surgery. She was my point of contact during my initial inquiry and continues to be my contact during post-op recovery. She was quick to respond to ALL emails and phone calls at pretty much any time of the week. She assisted with scheduling, insurance, preop/postop instructions, post op concerns, and transmitted info to Dr. Spiegel in a timely manner. I have probably conversed with Carole over a hundred times (and not once did I feel ignored or felt like I was bothering her). So thank you Carole for all your hard-work and putting up with my relentless questions. 2) Dr. Spiegel: A well regarded surgeon in facial plastic surgery. I vetted multiple well known, highly regarded plastic surgeons in the United States, some of which previously studied under him. However, I felt most comfortable with Dr. Spiegel. He was straightforward and to the point. His educational and surgical experience is superb. His results are cosmetically natural, beautifying, and in my case feminizing. He listened to my concerns, was empathetic, had great bedside manners, and was genuinely a nice person. His surgical skills are on point, he has great surgical hands, and was also great with followup post-op. No complaints whatsoever. 3) Anesthesia Team: Amazing! Don’t remember much post-op so I can’t comment too much but no complications and was pretty much as pain free as possible. 4) Post-Op: I was not forgotten or ignored. Carole and Dr. Spiegel continue to respond promptly if I have questions or concerns. Thankfully, I am getting the hang of this post-op plastic surgery life so I don’t have as many questions now. 5 stars for a renowned plastic surgeon and an amazing staff. I am currently 2 weeks past my surgery so I want to discuss their welcoming environment and how helpful they were before surgery and immediately afterwards. The thing that I instantly realized when I contacted them is how welcoming and professional the staff are. Everyone from my patient care coordinator, to their transition specialist, and the doctors themselves made me feel comfortable. They understood how important this surgery was to reduce my dysphoria and it showed. My Patient Care Coordinator, Carole, helped every step of the way before surgery to make sure I was prepared for my big day. She helped me coordinate all of the paperwork required through my insurance company with a positive and upbeat attitude. She was easily reached anytime I had questions or concerns. She was full of positivity that was certainly infectious. She made me feel like I was always her number one priority. She was my biggest cheerleader. The fact that there is a Transition Specialist on staff was amazing. Having a trans woman on staff that I could talk with about my dysphoria and any fears I may have was a game changer. Knowing that The Spiegel Center understood the importance of representation in our community gave me a comfort level that I will always be grateful for. Juliana and I had a conversation before the surgery that allowed me to address my concerns about having to stop estrogen a couple of weeks before surgery in a way that most people couldn’t. After surgery I reached out to her because I was feeling down and she lifted my spirits immediately. The Medical Staff themselves were very professional and were able to explain all of the procedures I had, 7 in all, in a way that was accessible to me. A couple of days after surgery was Thanksgiving and the staff reached out to me to wish me a Happy Thanksgiving and to check on me to see how I was feeling. Anytime I needed to speak to them I could reach them and they were always able to answer my questions. I am healing nicely from surgery and cannot wait to see the final results. I have total faith based on their compassion and professionalism that I am going to be very pleased. I consider myself very fortunate to have been under the care of the wonderful staff at The Spiegel Center and highly recommend them.

Procedure: FFS Surgery, Forehead Contouring, Mandible Contouring Source: Realself, 11/6/2022 I saw this group of procedures as my most important transition surgery. I considered a few doctors for my FFS, conducting research through all available channels; published medical research in gender affirming care, certifying bodies, the providers' marketing materials, CV, experience, background, consultations, before/afters, online reviews, public testimonies and celebrity patients, social media, word of mouth/hearsay, and my personal relationships with the providers' prior patients if any. Ultimately I settled on Dr. Spiegel as my surgeon. I'd like to share my experience and thought process as I sought to reduce my pre-op uncertainty as much as was possible. There are a select few preeminent sources in the world for FFS. With his background, Dr. Spiegel is indisputably one of them and without a doubt in my mind continues to be. He has a long and accomplished history and according to his office has completed procedures related to gender affirming care numbering in the thousands. This was clear to me throughout the process as it seems every aspect of my procedure from initial consultation to recovery was conducted with extreme efficiency. To me it was evident he sets that example, as it is clear in his manner. It is hard to imagine that he could have accrued so much experience without prioritizing this quality. There were two main points of consideration for my surgery and thus which surgeon to trust. The first is that the procedure goes well with a positive outcome for my physical health, without complications, injuries, infection or any other adverse impact on my wellness. The second is my mental well being, which for me is linked to the presentation of my gender identity and the best possible aesthetic outcome. Given my research, I felt assured that Spiegel's approach to the former was a clear and unambiguous commitment to the highest standards in all aspects of the procedure that could impact my physical health. I can confirm that turned out to be my personal experience as well. I have no complications to report following my surgery. My patient care coordinator (Hi Uzma! many months post op and she continues to be amazing hehe), his surgical fellows, and Spiegel himself were all quick to address any & all concerns throughout recovery in the following months. Within the span of three months I felt I had made a complete recovery from even my most minor concerns in this area. He conducts procedures in his own surgical center (which I greatly preferred to a hospital) with his own team. I had a chance to interact with all of them and they were all wonderful. What a warm and personable, orderly, competent and experienced team! I seem to remember telling jokes when I awoke from surgery and we were all laughing together, though my memory is understandably a bit hazy as I recovered from anesthesia. Incredible given how nervous I was as my surgical date neared, but testament to how well taken care of I was by Dr Spiegel & team. All I can say is wow! For the second priority which is aesthetic, I gathered as much knowledge as I could from as many sources as I could find on what is possible with today's procedures and what outcome to expect given the surgeon's abilities, accomplishments and aesthetic understanding. I have a background as a sculptor and had my own aesthetic understanding of what my face needed help with structurally to be gendered female and to be considered attractive vs. what sorts of changes are possible. Spiegel was still able to deepen my understanding in these areas. On some points we differed as we considered possible results. He expressed that he was willing to concede to what I was requesting when I pressed the matter. I reflected for some time after on our consultations (yes, I ended up requesting a few, which were all happily granted at no additional cost). Ultimately, even given my aesthetic background I felt completely comfortable deferring to his knowledge and moving forward with his approach entirely. Given my outcome, that decision was sound. I heard testimonials that his approach is conservative but I did not feel that was the case after speaking with him. That also turned out to be the case as my result is, in my opinion, a dramatic difference from before. It is also a very natural result, which I think better describes his approach and set of aesthetic priorities. There are of course many variables that dictate what is possible with a given patient's outcome that are outside the control of the surgeon, which is why collecting various professional opinions is so important. Dr. Spiegel expressed to me a few important technical factors inherent to my appearance that made him very optimistic about what was possible with my result. All said, today I get very consistent feedback on how amazing I look and there are in my opinion no visible signs of having received plastic surgery, ever. That is an honestly mind-boggling testament to the capabilities of this surgeon and team given all that goes into this process. All the research you conduct throughout your journey will amount to one conclusive moment. You are choosing the person you will trust to operate on your facial characteristics to be in better accord with the presentation of your identity to the rest of the world, and to manage the processes that entails, while you are unconscious and incapable of influencing the outcome in any way. I trusted Dr. Spiegel with that grave responsibility. The outcome of my decision to do so was that my quality of life improved tremendously. I don't think words are capable of expressing the benefit my outcome has had on my sense of well-being. I wish all people considering this surgery as good an outcome as I am now enjoying. If that's you, I wish you the absolute best and hope my review helps you on your journey.

I had completed forehead contouring, eyebrow lift, rhinoplasty & septoplasty, lift lip and augmentation, and mandible contouring - The results have made me feel like I finally see the person I’ve been my whole life. Procedure: FFS Surgery Source: Google, 10/29/2022 I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Spiegel and all of the great staff he has assembled. Eleanor, my patient care coordinator deserves special thanks, as does April, Jess, and the outstanding PACU and anesthesia staff. I have had two sets of procedures for facial feminization surgery at Dr. Spiegel's center, and the words fabulous or amazing only scratch the surface of grading the results. Both times I have had incredible results. Eleanor kept me grounded through the entire process by answering every one of my questions (even multiple times when my anxieties kicked in). She is so compassionate. Nothing was left to chance with my surgeries. As for Dr. Spiegel, and his plastic surgery fellow, Dr. Vandenberg, their level of professionalism and empathy is unparalleled. I first met with Dr. Spiegel in December 2021. I felt so at ease with his evaluation of what I required. He outlined all of the measures I would need, and how I could attain the results I was looking for. He also had follow-up consults with me as needed. When I had the surgery, he met with me before and after. I never had any feeling of "surgeries over, see ya". Dr. Vandenberg also was right there checking with me regarding my recovery. I will admit that it freaked me out a few days after the surgery. I was bruised and a bit swollen. I did not feel good about myself, but Dr. Spiegel and Eleanor got me through that. Fast-forward to two weeks later...Wow! As for the surgical center, they were so kind. Very attentive! Any time I have had surgery in the past, I would wake up groggy and nauseous followed by vomiting. Not at the Spiegel Center. I never had a twinge of pain or nausea during either surgery. I am a nurse practitioner with many years of emergency and critical care experience. I am very careful about who I would go to for any surgery. When I first started to review potential procedures and who could do them, I came across a number of research articles about the facial surgeries I was interested in pursuing. It is amazing how many procedures were developed or refined by Dr. Spiegel. He is considered a pioneer and expert in his field. You can find many alternatives, but ask yourself if you want to trust your face to anyone, or someone with an incredible amount of experience, and who has an outstanding reputation with incredible results. You cared enough to want to improve your face. Don't you deserve the best opportunity to do so?

Along the way there were some unforeseen circumstances that caused my surgery to be put off for another 5 months. During this time, I didn't have any worries about anything because Uzma took care of everything for me. I had breast augmentation with Dr. Shektman and I'm incredibly happy with the results and my new look..I also had VFS(voice feminization and a tracheal reduction procedure with Dr. Spiegel. I can't thank Dr. Spiegel enough for the incredible improvement in my voice- For the first time in my life, I have a voice I feel matches who I am and one I'm comfortable projecting and hearing. I'd also like to give a shout out to the office staff at the Spiegel Center, especially Eleanor(the patient coordinator) and to Faith and the other medical assistants, all of whom went out of their way to make me feel comfortable. Procedure: FFS Surgery Source: Realself, 10/7/2022 My entire experience at the Spiegel Center was absolutely wonderful! I was a little nervous at first to email for a consult, but I'm incredibly happy I did. I was set up with Uzma as my patient coordinator, she was very kind and understanding at every point during the process. She helped guide me and my family through the whole process leading up to surgery as well as giving us all the information we needed for aftercare and such, all while patiently answering every question we asked along the way. Dr. Spiegel listened to every detail of what I was looking for in each procedure I was getting done, both during the initial consult and right before surgery. He also answered lots of my questions and did a wonderful job explaining some of the intricacies and finer details of the procedures. The team of doctors that were there when I was just about to go into surgery were also extremely kind and reassuring, I felt very safe and like I was in good hands right up until the moment I went under anesthesia. After surgery, my parents picked me up and brought me to the hotel we were staying at while I recovered. Recovery wasn't all that bad, especially with the pain meds I was given, but I was definitely happy to have somebody there to help me out. I had an awful sore throat for a little bit which made it hard to eat or even drink water, when I called and told them about it they prescribed me a numbing medicine for it which completely fixed it, so I'm glad we reached out about it. After a fairly short time, I was off all the meds they gave me and I was basically able to eat normally (but carefully) after about 2 weeks. In addition to all the doctors, Uzma was also still there to help answer questions during this part of the process as well. The only remnant of the recovery process that remains is that I have to be careful brushing my hair to avoid irritating the incision. Before I forget, I specifically had a brow-bone shave, eyebrow lift, rhinoplasty, jaw/mandible contouring, trachea shave, and a lip augmentation on the top lip. I'm incredibly happy with the results, which I attached to this review. That's pretty much everything I can remember about the whole process, I'm deeply thankful to the entire team at the Spiegel Center, everybody was so kind and helpful I'd absolutely recommend them to anyone!

I was able to address my concerns with Dr. Spiegel and was happy to see him answer some of my more difficult questions (such as addressing bad reviews) with honesty. In addition to their calm, reassuring approach to the surgery, they handled every aspect of dealing with the insurance company and took the stress out of the proceedings. For parents who are consenting to surgery for their transgender child, please make sure your health insurance provider complies with the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care (SOC) to ensure your procedures will be covered. In addition, for parents in Connecticut, please note that the Connecticut’s Children’s Health Insurance (CHIP) program (HUSKY B) covers gender transition services. In summary, I have nothing but good things to say about Dr. Spiegel and his staff and I highly recommend them to anyone seeking this kind of surgery.

However, now that it’s been a bit more than that, I can definitively say that my experience getting FFS with the Spiegel Center has been a wonderful one. To be sure, I was extremely nervous going into it—it’s your face after all! I researched all the surgeons I could who accepted my insurance, and read extensive reviews on each of them. They all have good and bad reviews, but I found that I liked Dr. Spiegel’s results, and so eventually I landed on him.Uzma, the patient coordinator I worked with, was nothing but kind to me when I first called to set up my consultation. In fact, she has been an absolute angel throughout the entire process; I have worked with many different healthcare professionals since I began transitioning in 2018, and have been blessed to have had mostly good ones, but Uzma’s genuine kindness and interest in my comfort and happiness went above and beyond. We even shared a tearful moment when I last left the Spiegel Center to return home, knowing that my life had been permanently changed for the better and that I was now off to live the rest of it. I seriously cannot say enough good of her.I had less direct interaction with Dr. Spiegel himself that wasn’t brass tacks, but he’s the surgeon, not the patient coordinator. It is clear he is a very busy man, and based on other reviews I have read, I think that does tend to turn some people off. I got Jaw and chin contouring , rhinoplasty and buccel fat removal. I was nervous getting another nosejob as this was my 3rd but I got the cast off today and cried some tears I was so happy and amazed at how he listened to me and gave what I asked for. I asked for a smaller bridge and tip with him to fix my side profile which had scar tissue and a hump at the top my other surgeon failed to fix twice and to make my left side more symmetrical and pretty. I can’t believe I’m 6 days only post OP. And for my jaw and chin I’m absolutely still swollen and can’t really see any results yet but I do see more of a feminine outline *i think* haha, but it’s looking 100% symmetrical and he cut and shaved down the bone so I’m sure he made it more feminine just have to wait for results ! Eleanor is an absolute Lovely lady and caring, I came here alone and she made sure everything was in order. I’m very independent and don’t have family or friends but she was definitely involved regardless and made sure I was well and not in pain. Brow bossing another 10 percent, a lip lift maybe five percent. Dr. Spiegel cannot take away the trauma or transphobia that all of us face, but he can help reduce the markers testosterone creates in your facial structure.For me personally, the jaw reduction, voice surgery and scalp advance are the three I would recommend most strongly. Procedure: FFS Surgery Source: Realself, thejennafox, 1/11/2022As early as I could remember, I've been wanting to work with Dr. Spiegel and his staff, a lot got in the way (personally before contacting them) and insurance was a nightmare until I got to their office, from Eleanor setting up the consult, then when I had saved up enough, they helped me structure the payments, with a few phone calls in there, then 6 months past and in I went for surgery one (which included FFS (Forehead contouring, scalp advancement, eyebrow lift, mandible contouring), Rhinoplasty and trachea shave leading to a 5 1/2-6 hour surgery timeframe (if anyone was wondering) , the only glitch the process was the wrong tube being 'installed' in pre-op resulting in removal, though the crisis was quickly reverted, then I loved that they played 80's as I drifted in the operating room and the recovery room was so wonderful (though I was feeling awkward in my bandages, though it was a necessary evil, lol (I know a lot of folks going through this process do not like the wraps, lol and if you know what I'm talking about, then you can relate, lol), my brother helped with recovery the next week, then I came back for the 1-week check up to have my staples and stitches removed and had to do the 3-fingered nose up-push techniques to help my nose heal for the next 6 months to 1-year ^_^, then became the longggg healing process, then 6 weeks later I was able to get the throat surgery, that was a 1-hour surgery, and the pre-op and recovery room was wonderful, and even set me up with a awesome app to text-to-speech, I could not speak for 3 weeks, and after 4 weeks I had my video follow-up with Dr. Spiegel, and I loved what he said, "its a tennis player that had elbow surgery, not quite ready for Wimbledon' I loved that, ^_^ now as of this post, still healing, and I'll be returning eventually for the hair procedure, I hope that helps you all, and stay safe, virtual hugs to you all, hope for a quick recovery too, ^_^

These traits are surpassed by his talent in the OR. He will make honest recommendations with you about which procedures to pursue. It’s equally important to already be honest with yourself about what you want, and be prepared for your consultation. My FFS included a forehead sculpting, rhinoplasty, cheek implants, a lip lift and a mandible reshape. These all came out beautiful and natural looking.Dr Shektman is the “body doctor” who completed my augmentation. I actually thought I’d be uncomfortable having those conversations and appointments, but he has such an authentic and technical interest in his work that it’s impossible to focus on anything else in those conversations. My breasts came out absolutely perfect for my body and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.Carole will be your best friend through scheduling and processing. When I called to book a consultation for Facial Femininization surgery I was greeted with "It's a beautiful day at the Spiegel Center" and that positive energy was kept up throughout my experience. At my consultation Dr. Spiegel listened to all my concerns and answered all of my questions. It was then I met the patient care coordinator Carole who kept in constant contact with me the next few months to help me figure out paperwork and insurance issues. It was very clear that everyone on the team was genuinely excited like I was excited. After my surgery the office called to check up on me regularly while I was healing. Ten days after the Facial Feminization surgery I went back to The Spiegel Center for a hair transplant. The women who preformed the procedure were very sweet and very knowledgeable. We ran into some issues when it became clear that my body metabolizes lidocaine extremely quickly so my head wasn't staying numb for as long as expected. To work around this the technicians skipped taking a break and worked nonstop through the 6 1/2 hour procedure to take full advantage of the lidocaine's effects.

I’m writing this about 2 months post op and feel my swelling has all gone down enough to where I’m definitely seeing the results! My chin and brow bone always made me self conscious but now my brow is so flat! And my chin despite still being swollen is way more symmetrical and so natural looking! The recovery process was rough but that’s to be expected. The team at the Spiegal center are amazing. If you get Eleanor as your patient coordinator you’ll love her! The staff here is exceptional from admin to surgical, Dr Spiegel will make you look like the truest version of yourself instead of somebody completely different. Recovery is tough, but it's not too bad, and the spiegel center is very quick to act on concerns and followups especially regarding care. I cannot express the amount of care, I just remember being in the surgical suite and waking up to friendly faces and being so scared it meant everything that they handled it with that much care post op. He (appears to but not verified) specializes in a very natural finished product, the biggest compliment I get consistently is that my face doesn't look that different but more-so looks like it would've if I hadn't gone through a male puberty. I’m a 23 year old trans woman and I had facial feminization surgery, specifically a Lip Lift, Brow Reduction, Rhinoplasty, and I had previously had a tracheal shave with him. I was lucky enough to get a lot of it covered by insurance. One of my big fears was that it would look plastic but honestly my results are very natural. It really helped with my dysphoria. I decided to medically transition after a mental breakdown coupled with suicidal tendencies. Originally I wasn't meant to have Dr. Spiegel as my first surgeon. I had been scheduled to have SRS in early July. That got cancelled... postponed. In general, I've always liked to have a Plan B. I'd been researching Facial Feminization Surgeons. I looked at many... in Spain, Korea, Brazil... all over the USA. My health insurance weighed heavily in my final decision to go with Dr. Spiegel (I have Starbucks Supplemental). There are many fine surgeons, but if I can pass along one bit of advice to you it is this... when dealing with your face only choose a plastic surgeon that specializes in 'Facial' plastic surgery. Also make sure they are Board Certified. Seems like common sense. Dr. Spiegel is among the very best. So I had 9 surgeries in one day. I was Dr. Spiegel's only patient that day. He worked on me for 8 hours straight. I do hope he got lunch and pee breaks... His surgical team was professional and very nice to me. I remember thinking that the anesthesiologist was cute. I don't remember anything else... I woke up in the hotel. It had been strongly recommended to me to hire a private nurse to take care of me for the first few days after surgery. I was also in this cycle of watching every graphic video I could find on the subject so it's fair to say I was a little nervous. When I got to the Spiegel Center--from consultation, tomy patient coordinator, to the nurses, to the surgeons, to everyone else who called and checked in--I was floored by how accommodating and responsive everyone was. Not only that, but I felt like I was in really good hands. There was no moment where things felt uncertain or scary. I'm starting to see the changes in my face and I can't believe it. Through the whole process the office staff, dr jeffrey spiegel himself and his surgical nurses and assistants were nothing but kind, thorough, and very clearly well practiced in their field. Dr Spiegels (and teams) bedside manner is comforting and relaxing, i remember being somewhat terrified when I felt the anesthesia kick in and when I woke up, I woke up to many happy faces reassuring me that everything went well. My coordinator in the office Eleanor has had to deal with me for months and I'm a bit of a handful, but she's done so well in keeping up communication with me and making sure I had the best experience possible. Now that I'm starting to see the changes made I'm seeing how natural and real these changes look and it's absolutely incredible and yes It's a pricey facility comparatively, but it is for good reason. I highly, highly recommend visiting the spiegel center for your FFS and other facial aesthetic needs and I'll be returning to get other procedures with them asap.

If you are fortunate enough to be in a position where you are even able to consider it, and sure that you are doing it for YOU, then don’t hesitate. I had the following facial feminization (FFS) procedures: (1) forehead contouring with scalp advancement and browlift; (2) mandible contouring/shaping; (3) lip augmentation; (4) cheek implant; (5) trachea shave; (6) hair transplant.I believe I first contacted Dr. Spiegel through the website in September of 2020, and in less than 24 hours I had a call from Eleanor, who was so incredibly sweet and comforting from her first call/greeting to me. I was still very early on in my transition and I’m sure I fumbled through basic communication but I was immediately put at ease. My hope is that this one day isn’t a consideration, but at least you know that they responded accordingly and exceeded all expectations.The results of the surgery have been amazing for me. Especially my own perception of myself/outlook, which really should be everything (though, sadly often times isn’t). If you’re considering FFS you know that Dr. Spiegel is capable of achieving a very natural look. I’m fortunate in that I have a beautiful twin sister (and little sister, unrelatedly  ), and although we look different it’s amazing how similar we now appear. It’s a very natural look – which is exactly what I wanted. I’m now about 5 months out and I’m still very much noticing positive changes month-to-month (i.e., my chin getting smaller and smaller, my bottom lip plumping, and more feeling/movement). I couldn’t be happier, until I look in the mirror each time and see it healing more and more. I won’t touch too much on recovery as it varies per person. FFS is brutal recovery. Even though it’s a privilege, you’ll fee down afterwards. Mentally and physically. I’m lucky in that I haven’t had any real complications. I still am regaining feeling in my lips and scalp so chewing is a little weird and I have weird a “internal itch” in my scalp that I’d imagine has to do with the nerves regenerating (so probably a good sign). My procedures included forehead contouring with scalp advancement & browlift, trachea shave, lip lift, rhinoplasty, upper/lower blepharoplasty, cheek implants, mandible contouring, and chin implant. The procedures were performed outpatient at Newton Surgery, upstairs from The Spiegel Center. I hired a nurse to help at home for the first night and a few hours per day for the first 4-5 days. I'm now eight months post-surgery. I've waited this long to write my review to ensure that I healed properly with no complications. I had lots of procedures and I was out-of-work for seven weeks before I felt I could comfortably work again. It was definitely a tough recovery. Be prepared for total recovery to take several months! My face has subtly changed over these eight months - and each change has improved my overall look. I'm very satisfied with my results. My face is unquestionably more feminine. A good friend said that I look like the cisgender sister of my former self - and I agree. Sadly, I've had to cover my face with a mask since my surgery due to the pandemic. So I can't say for sure how much easier I move through the world now. But I like my photos now! My pre-FFS photos sharply contrast with my recent photos. I transitioned at 20 after puberty changed my face and, well, hormones don't change bones, so even after nearly four years of HRT I still thought I looked masculine. I had heard of and debated FFS for a while but as soon as I got in the financial position to do it, I started researching. Dr. Spiegel had the most experience and best pedigree (both who he's worked on, and who he's trained; the top-tier FFS market is basically him and a bunch of his former students) that I found. I also liked that he strives for a natural look, which is important to me because I am career-minded and don't want to look like I've had work done.My forehead and nose were the only things that gave me dysphoria and I only intended to get those done. I was worried Dr. Spiegel would try to upsell me, but he agreed I didn't need chin or jaw work or a tracheal shave (the other half of the full FFS package that many people get) and listened to my goals. Forehead was my number one priority and from the pictures, I will post next month, you will see why. Dr. Spiegel and his team were great throughout the process, especially the patient coordinator Eleanor, who was accessible, friendly, and kind as my point person. She accommodated a lot of my nerves about getting surgery during COVID and provided helpful information about how to prepare and recover.Pain was not bad at all, but swelling was pretty major so be prepared with ice! Ice is your best friend the first few days. RESULTS:I actually do not have a brow ridge anymore. My forehead is so flat! It's amazing! That may not mean much to cis people but to us trans women, it's unbelievable. Even with the swelling that's still there, you can tell where the bone is and where it isn't. So as for priority 1: awesome job. The nose is harder to tell because of the swelling (the tip is massive right now but that's to be expected from my knowledge of rhinoplasty recovery). But two things are apparent. One, I no longer have a hump! Which was the main masculine signifier on my nose. So however my nose turns out, I won't have dysphoria over it anymore. I personally had Uzma Hussain as my coordinator as she was absolutely wonderful. Prompt replies and always had the answers I was looking for; I never really felt nervous during the entire process thanks to her and the other staff members there. Dr. Spiegel himself was friendly, informative, and the work he and his attendings did was fantastic. All three of them made time for one on one discussion. Even the surgical center staff was equally as friendly and enjoyable to be around. I personally had several procedures done in regards to 'facial feminization surgery'. All procedures were minimally invasive, well thought out, and left minimal scarring - if it was even visible to start with. Out of the six known incisions I know I had, only one left very minimal and barely notable scarring along one single nostril, - and only so due to a skin issue that became apparent during recovery.

I wanted to wait a bit after my surgery so I could be more sure of the results as they say that about every 3 months, they look better. I've certainly found that to be true. Dr. Spiegel did an excellent job feminizing those features & I feel much more comfortable with my face & how people view me. Healing was remarkably quick & pain-free (just tylenol after day of surgery) and the scar within my hairline is almost invisible just a few months later. Numbness went away after about two months for my scalp and mostly back to normal by 3 months for my chin (still some reduced/strange sensation but mostly not noticeable).My only difficulties came in trying to collect the information and get their office to fill out forms my insurance required for reimbursement. I am currently a month out and as the swelling goes down the results reveal themselves in very affirming and delightful ways! The staff was respectful and the person that was the biggest superstar was Carole Werner. There were a lot of hiccups that occurred on the way to my surgery date and she made me feel so at peace and confident that everything would be fine. She from the beginning to the end was spectacular, really everything a girl could dream of! The reason I don't give the full five stars are few but I think it's important to mention that at a place that specializes in gender affirming surgeries there were no trans staff members (at least that I know of). It would have been very comforting to be able to talk to a staff member that had a deeper understanding of what it was like to live a trans experience. The other issue I had was with the waiting room times and the fact that my pre-op appointment felt really rushed. It's understandable that with Covid things aren't going to run as smooth as they normally do but there is also a unique opportunity to schedule in a way thats eliminates such long times in the waiting room. Lastly, it's important to prepare people for the post operative experience. Dr. Spiegel made it seem like things would be "fine" sooner than they actually were. For the most part he was informative but I think it would be good to let clients know that bruising will take over a month to go away potentially. I'm only 3 months post-op so there is some healing left to do (chin, nose, forehead, and scalp still a bit numb), but I'm happy with the results so far. My family and some of my friends that also know my sister tell me that I look a lot like her now.I had an Adam's apple reduction, chin/jaw contouring, lip lift, cheek implants, rhino, forehead contouring/brow bossing, and hair line advancement. A hair transplant was done 1 week after to help hide the scar from the hair line advancement.I might get VFS and some moles removed sometime next year at the Spiegel Center.The only thing that didn't go great for me was that there is a divot on my forehead. I had that divot before FFS, but it is more noticeable afterwards. It comes down vertically in the center of my forehead. His talent and expertise go without saying, he's simply just the best; but he is also such a kind and compassionate person. Dr. Spiegel went over everything with me in detail and answered ALL of my questions in detail. He does this surgery A LOT, but he never made me feel like "just another one", nothing felt mechanical. I wanted to mention that because I went on consultations with two other pretty well known surgeons and I cannot say the same about them. The impression with them was "I do this a lot, I'm good at it, just listen, you'll be fine". Dr. Spiegel, on the other hand, made everything feel very personalized. That's the difference between confidence and ego. He made it clear that he was going to give me MY face, not just a collection of standard feminine feature. Procedure: FFS Surgery Source: Google Two years ago I had FFS in Boston by Dr. Spiegel and it was life changing… After reading many surgeon reviews online I decided to have an online Skype consultation with Dr. Spiegel. I was immediately at ease and felt heard leaving me full of confidence to move forward and book my surgery. Dr. Spiegel's staff (especially Carole) made scheduling easy and were really helpful in preparing me with what to expect and where to stay which really helped to reduce anxiety about the upcoming trip. Surgery took place in an amazing modern and clean Hospital which I recovered in for a day or two before going back to my hotel with a friend. I had tried everything before making up my mind to come out, and I was really scared for what the future had in store for me. Going in, I promised myself only the best. Whether it was finding a therapist, hair removal, breast augmentation, voice lessons, and especially facial feminization surgery, I didn't want to cut a single corner. For FFS, I was prepared to travel as far as I had to, and I can honestly say that Dr. Spiegel was my #1 choice in the world. That I live in NYC and Dr. Spiegel is in Boston was just a happy coincidence. My decision came down to his experience, reputation, and the aesthetics of all the photos that I managed to find, both on his web site as well as various internet forums. People say that his results are natural, and I’d agree. I had “the works,” including brow reduction, brow lift, hairline advancement, cheek implants, rhinoplasty, lip lift, jaw contouring, chin implant, and trachea reduction. I feel he was thoughtful in his approach to each one. For some of the procedures, like the brow reduction and nose job, he was aggressive. For a few of the others, like the lip lift, the results are more subtle, but I have naturally full lips so that makes sense to me. Overall, I’d say that he played to my strengths. The first few days of recovery were an absolute nightmare. About two weeks later, despite being nowhere near healed, I started to venture out. People had no idea I was trans. This was an absolute miracle to me. I was so accustomed to my dreams not coming true, but suddenly it was “ma’am” and “miss” everywhere I went! Gradually, as my new face came into focus, I began to like what I saw in the mirror. I still have plenty of rough days, believe me, but FFS changed my life in ways I truly did not think was possible. Going to Dr. Spiegel was the biggest leap of faith I’ve ever taken in my life, and now at age 41, I’m so incomparably happy that I did. I did have a complication with the chin implant, however. It had healed fine at first, but after about a year, the area would swell if I talked or chewed a lot. Eventually, I developed an infection and had to have it removed. Several months later, I developed some scar tissue under the skin and needed an injection. In retrospect, I wouldn’t have opted for the chin implant in the first place. I’m very happy with the results from all of these, especially the chin and forehead work, as those were the things I was most uncomfortable with before. I do have a bit of visible scarring on one side of my forehead, however it barely noticeable, and only if you’re looking closely. I am also considering having a bit more jaw work done, in my pre op we decided to only do the front part of my jaw near my chin. I have an appointment with Dr Spiegel to discuss potentially having the rest of my jaw done in April, I’ll update if I decide to go through with it. The staff at the Spiegel Center were amazing and helped me through the whole process, it was especially confusing as I had surgery covered by my insurance which meant a lot of paperwork. Carol, my patient coordinator, was always there to answer any questions I had and guide me though the process. Arelys, their billing and scheduling specialist helped me get everything covered by insurance and was able to get me surgical date 4 months earlier than the one I was initially given. Procedure: Forehead Contouring 2/3/2023 Thank God I found Dr. Spiegel at The Spiegel Center! I was born female but always felt my forehead made me look masculine, so I went to my plastic surgeon in New Jersey, and he referred me to Dr. Spiegel in Boston, Massachusetts; he said he was the best in forehead contouring! I quickly called their office and spoke to Carole. Words cannot explain how amazing she was. She explained everything and helped me complete the paperwork and prepare me for surgery. In addition, she gave me her cell phone number just in case I had any additional questions when she was not in the office. I did a FaceTime consultation with Dr. Spiegel, and I felt comfortable with him immediately. He thoroughly explained everything and made me feel like he was perfect for the job. Soon after, I scheduled an appointment for surgery. On the day of surgery, Carole ensured I had no problems traveling from Jersey to Boston and greeted me when I arrived. On the day of the surgery, the entire staff was outstanding from beginning to end. The first couple weeks after surgery was a little challenging, but pain medication helped me feel relaxed and comfortable. Whenever I felt an ache or pain that I wasn’t sure was normal, I contacted Dr. Spiegel directly. He listened carefully, asked me to send pictures, and assured me that everything was normal and to contact him again if necessary. Two months post op: I’m back in the office seeing Dr. Spiegel to make sure everything is healing well and looks good, and he explained that everything looked great! I’m healing fast. I was concerned because every now and then, I have a little sting and sharp throbbing in the forehead area and on top of my head. Dr. Spiegel explained that I wanted to feel the stinging because that means I’m still healing- all completely normal. I didn’t really need to travel back to Boston, but I worry a lot - mostly unnecessarily. But every time I worry, Dr. Spiegel listens, address my concerns and makes me feel better. I trust that if something was wrong, he would definitely tell me and make sure I get the attention I need. Dr. Spiegel is smart, caring and makes me laugh whenever I interact with him. He’s a great surgeon- just like my plastic surgeon back in New Jersey told me! My forehead looks very feminine now! I am very pleased with the results!

What I had done: 1. Mandible contouring- the results are subtle but have had a significant impact. I feel like my face appears smaller and more feminine. I didn't experience much pain in my mandible, I did have to shave my face and that was very uncomfortable. It felt like I was plucking each hair. lol. I couldn't eat anything for probably 2 weeks but I did drink smoothies. I also mashed up noodles and had that but my daily intake was around 500 calories. I lost 20 pounds between surgery and home.... Im not mad about it! 2. Forehead- I went with forehead reconstruction and bc of my job as a nurse, I opted to have my incision placed behind the hairline. Unfortunately, I did end up losing a good grip of hair. After a few days of having my head wrapped, my hair got extremely tangled and there were two huge knots... I looked like princess Leia. one of the knots fell out while I was trying to get it out and the other one was removed with scissors. I am very appreciative of this surgery. I experienced more pain with this surgery. I read online that there would be minimal pain bc the area was supposed to be extremely numb. That wasn't my experience. only the right side of my head was numb but the left side was extremely tender and painful. Occasionally today I will feel some slight discomfort. Having the staples removed was fairly comfortable until the left side needed to be removed. Because the incision was in the hair, it was hard to see all of the staples and there were two that were missed. This happens sometimes. I just recommend that you feel through your hair to make sure that there aren't any staples left. I would 10/10 recommend Dr Spiegel for surgery. I am only two months post-op but I am already in agreement with this! The cranioplasty or forehead reduction and rhinoplasty already look absolutely perfect. I am told it will take up to a year for the jaw and chin swelling to subside completely but I already see a huge improvement. The greatest aspect of Dr. Spiegel's work in my opinion is how natural, yet significant the feminization is. In other words I still look very much like "me" and people say that I look like a twin sister of my old self. Dr. Spiegel and his staff are very kind and respectful. Procedure: Forehead Contouring Source: Google I has a forehead reconstruction with brow lift and trachea shave done with Dr. Spiegel on March 2nd 2018 at Mount Auburn Hospital. I came all the way from Korea to see Dr. Spiegel because Korean surgeons can’t perform the type 3 forehead reconstruction I desperately needed. Not only did both procedures go perfectly, my experience at Mount Auburn Hospital was absolutely amazing. He performed the trachea shave in a very safe manner, and I have experienced no negative changes in voice what so ever. Dr. Spiegel performed the brow lift slightly differently for me and the result suits my Asian face perfectly. He also fixed the minor ptosis in my right brow. Also what amazes me is the incision for my forehead reconstruction was closed up so carefully that after one week I can barely see the actual scar line except the scabs around it. As it turned out Dr. Spiegel was surprised too, because he said most patients aren’t nearly as careful as me after the procedure and always stress the surgery spot and stretch out the scar tissue early in the recovery process. Not only was the staff at Mount Auburn Hospital super friendly, I was offered a single room with a beautiful view of the river. My first night was absolutely painless, and my swelling was minimal. Also, the paient coordinator Katie at Dr. Spiegel’s office is the best! She was always responding to emails promptly, and she helped me so much with billing and scheduling the surgery. I messed up the payment because I didn’t read the instructions carefully but Katie figured everything out and dispersed the payment for me. Thank you so much!! I'm not quite 2 weeks out, and will update in the future if my feelings change, but the changes in my face already are lovely. I had Forehead reduction, Rhinoplasty, Lip Lift, and Trachea Shave. Pros: --Great results so far -Lovely staff/facility. Really everyone I engaged with was great. Even when I was passing out getting an IV or getting faint when the staples came out, everyone was supportive and nice. -Staff were super available during recovery. Whenever we were worried about something, we could always reach someone by phone with questions. -Despite still being a swollen mess, so far I look *natural* which is what I was going for. Cons:-Spiegel AIN'T CHEAP. You get what you *pay* for. 100% worth it in my mind, but not everyone can afford this doctor sadly-Going back to hotel the day of surgery was scary. Worked out, but still scary.-Post op appointment getting stitches/staples out was a miserable experience. Overall:-Recovery sucked. Majorly. Easily the most uncomfortable week of my life. 0/10. Spent the first 3 days drugged up and in a lot of discomfort. Next 3 days weening off meds and very uncomfortable/bored. Last 2-3 days of recovery spent bored out of my goddamn mind. The recovery process will suck. It's bearable, but it suuucckkkksssss. I knew it would going in, and I was still surprised by how much of a bummer it was. Procedure: Mandible Contouring Source: Google, Kate Davis 1/23/2021 I had an unbelievably amazing experience with Dr. Spiegel and his team at The Spiegel Center. I heard about Doctor Spiegel online and his work with FFS. I was only looking for a mandible contouring procedure and he had a very good reputation for them. I called and scheduled a consultation and that’s where I first met Dr. Spiegel. He not only presented me with all the options to make my jawline look the way I wanted, but he also made an effort to get to know me. When I shared with him that I was a nursing student pursuing a career in psych nursing he told me stories about his psych clinical rotation. He not only made the effort to get to know my goals for my face, but also went the extra mile to get to know me as a person which made me feel so much more confident in choosing him to do my procedure over other doctors I consulted with. Next, I met Carole, an absolute angel. She was there for me throughout the entire process with any questions I had and worked scheduling miracles so I could have the procedure done before I started my semester. I had my procedure done at the Newton Surgery location and Dr. Spiegel’s team there was incredible as well. About 3 days post op I had some pain in my lips because I had wrapped my bandages too tight (totally an error on my part). At about 8pm on Sunday I sent Carole a non-urgent email just to let her know I was going to call the next morning to ask if pain in my lips was normal. She emailed me back right away and Dr. Spiegel himself called me with in 5 minutes to make sure I was okay. He had me send him photos and he recognized that I had put the bandage back on too tight. He advised I take the bandage off and the issue immediately corrected itself. I could not be more thrilled with my results. I wasn’t looking for a dramatic change, I just wanted my jawline to look more symmetrical. My family and myself noticed the amazing difference and how much better my face looked. The difference was also subtle enough that people I don’t see every day weren’t able to notice that I had any work done. There was no scarring and I look so beautiful and natural, just a more enhanced version of myself. The people who did know I had the procedure done and saw my before and after photos were floored by what a difference it made in how much better I looked even though it was such a minor change. Since I had my mandible contouring done at The Spiegel Center, three of the people who saw my results have also booked procedures there. Three months after my mandible contouring The Spiegel Center called me to let me know they had an opening for me to get a rhinoplasty because they remembered that I had briefly mentioned I was interested in doing one back at my original consultation. I just had my rhinoplasty, and it came out exactly how I wanted. I have now had 2 procedures at the Spiegel Center with Dr. Spiegel that have gone above and beyond my expectations in every way. Procedure: Mandible Contouring Source: RealSelf 28 Nov 2020 Great Results Dr. Spiegel performed my facial feminization surgery in mid-June (mandible & forehead contouring). I wanted to wait a bit after my surgery so I could be more sure of the results as they say that about every 3 months, they look better. I've certainly found that to be true. Dr. Spiegel did an excellent job feminizing those features & I feel much more comfortable with my face & how people view me. Healing was remarkably quick & pain-free (just tylenol after day of surgery) and the scar within my hairline is almost invisible just a few months later. Numbness went away after about two months for my scalp and mostly back to normal by 3 months for my chin (still some reduced/strange sensation but mostly not noticeable). My only difficulties came in trying to collect the information and get their office to fill out forms my insurance required for reimbursement. Most of those difficulties came from the side of my insurance company (BCBS) but it took multiple months of emailing back & forth to get all the documentation I needed for insurance approval. Dr. Spiegel himself was great & did an excellent job answering any questions I had, though he often seemed rushed/short on time as I was going through the questions I had after my initial consultation. Overall, I would highly recommend his work & I'm very happy with my results almost 6 months out. I looked into Dr. Spiegel because I'd read an article on him being featured as one of the best plastic surgeons one could find. Looking through his website, I knew I'd found the right doctor. I sent an initial inquiry through their online forum and within a day, Katie called me and was able to answer any and all of the initial questions I had to ask. I opted to have a consultation over Skype with the doctor. After listening to my concerns he suggested ways to fix the problems I'd listed. Past that I communicated with Kat for the months leading up to my surgery date. She was extremely resourceful, would answer my questions, and she was fast at replying; having interacted almost exclusively via email, it was a pleasant surprise. When I showed up for my pre-op visit, Kat was every bit as darling in person and walked me through my aftercare in depth. When I met Dr. Spiegel, he was positive and reassured me that everything would go just as well as I knew it would. The day of the surgery, the staff at the Boston Medical Center was warm and comforting. Dr. Spiegel came in to reassure me one last time before I was rolled off to the operating room. I was able to stop taking heavy painkillers on the first night of recovery and managed on Tylenol for the remainder of the week my head tingled. I was shocked how little I'd swelled--my eyes deepened and my trachea was a little puffed for the week but I was pretty much normal after that! When I came back to the Spiegel Center for my post-operative visit to have my staples removed, Kat, Dr. Spiegel, and one of the surgeons that had worked with him came to admire their work. Procedure: Adam's Apple Reduction Source: Google I've recently had three procedures at the Spiegel Center and couldn't be happier with the results. I had breast augmentation with Dr. Shektman and I'm incredibly happy with the results and my new look..I also had VFS(voice feminization and a tracheal reduction procedure with Dr. Spiegel. I can't thank Dr. Spiegel enough for the incredible improvement in my voice- For the first time in my life, I have a voice I feel matches who I am and one I'm comfortable projecting and hearing. Any surgery is a scary proposition for me but this went smoothly and without any problems. The process from start to finish was simple and easy. I had jaw contouring, lower lid blepharoplasty, lip lift, and a chin revision, and am overjoyed with my results so far! Recovery was exactly as Dr Spiegel described and had gone quite smoothly. The staff at The Spiegel center are all wonderful, especially my patient care coordinator Uzma, who was not just helpful but caring and a delight to work with! The only hitch in my surgery was that I was delayed in arriving at the surgery center (in the same building as Dr Spiegel’s clinic - super convenient!) by an entire hour (totally my fault!). Instead of rescheduling me they expedited my pre-op care and everything continued without a problem. This took me from a virtual panic attack to massive relief. I cannot imagine other places & practitioners being so accommodating. These are just lovely people who do a great job and care about their patients. I will be returning for another procedure with Dr Spiegel soon with a feeling of total confidence. Update: since posting this I have had several more surgeries with Dr Spiegel - deep plane facelift, vocal feminization surgery - and each one has reinforced my opinion that Dr Spiegel and his team are the best in the business. I had voice feminization surgery there back in January and the results just a month later are incredible! The staff has been incredibly nice and caring with me before and after my procedure. Yes, four procedures (to be accurate, four surgeries, with multiple procedures during each of the surgeries) - I've had mandible contouring, lip lift, brow lift, lower eye lift in the first surgery; deep plane face lift in the second, hair grafting in the third, and breast augmentation and vocal feminization in the fourth. I originally consulted with Dr Spiegel to see if he could improve on a facial feminization surgery I had 21 years ago - and he deftly met the challenge! I am very happy with the results in my face and now my voice, as well as the nice increase in my breast size (and beauty) courtesy of Dr Spiegel’s colleague, Dr Shektman! But that’s not all! I also had skin rejuvenation with Dr Onir at the Spiegel Center - IPL and Facial Fractional Radiofrequency Microneedling (Morpheus8). The results have been quite pleasing, and am happy to have met and been under the able care of Dr Onir. So you could say i am a Spiegel fan, and i am a discerning consumer, and have done my research. Dr Spiegel and his colleagues are the best! i have experienced no complications with any of my procedures, much less discomfort that I had been expecting, especially with the extended deep plane facelift. The concern shown by staff at the Spiegel Center has also been warm and affirming each time, and the medical staff at the attached Newton Surgery Center are also fabulous. I also want to make special mention of the Spiegel Center’s newest member, Juliana Wall, who is their Transition Counselor, the first such position at a plastic surgery center in the US. She is so warm, friendly, and knowledgeable, and as a trans woman herself, speaks with personal experience. I love Juliana! Procedure: Voice Feminization Source: Realself, 10/26/2022I am posting this under FFS because there is no treatment option in realself for VFS and Dr. Spiegel does do FFS as well. To be clear, the below review is for VFS not FFS. I am extremely happy with my Voice Feminization Surgery (VFS) result. I had VFS with Dr. Spiegel because I trusted him. Specifically, I had been following his work for over a decade and admired his years of experience helping people live their authentic lives. I might have considered looking into the other popular clinic in South Korea but due to COVID my first reaction was to look locally for surgeons who might perform the same procedure locally in the states. I was delighted to see that Dr. Spiegel did, who I had already been following for almost a decade for his well known work in FFS. Carole and Dr. Spiegel helped me decide the right procedures for me (I was considering possibly getting FFS as well at the time but will probably do so in the future) and I decided on just getting VFS for now. I had an already trained voice at a steady 170hz avg speaking, androgynous/femme passing voice - never gendered incorrectly. However, I didn't like my voice on the phone or recordings. I spend most of my life on Zoom calls for work and have to listen to recordings often. After following his strict instructions (not talking, taking it easy, etc...) I wanted to wait at least 6 months before writing a review. At the 6 month point my voice is now on average 190-210hz depending on how much coffee I've had (lol) using the same amount of effort I did before and I am MUCH happier with my voice in recordings. My voice rarely gets tired anymore either as when I am tired I am less concerned about keeping up a trained femme voice. Given, results are not always guaranteed in this surgery (with any surgeon) just due to all of the many variables with voice - Dr. Spiegel did not try to convince me that I would 100% have the results I wanted. He was very honest and I appreciate that honesty. He also has had a lot of success over the many years he has been doing this procedure and could speak to that success which gave me the confidence to undertake the procedure. For ANY surgeon doing VFS I wouldn't recommend you do this until you've trained your voice and spent good effort trying to raise your pitch yourself. I came from out of town for a vocal chord procedure that outside of South Korea, very few doctors do and everything came out exactly as I had hoped for. Procedure: Voice Feminization Source: Google, Dana Caraway, 1/5/2021 I had voice feminizing surgery with Dr. Spiegel on Nov. 18th, 2021. It Is January 05, 2022 and I am leaving my review. Nearly 7 weeks out and my voice has become much more feminine and has stayed that way. Now it’s time for it to smooth out and I have maintained the higher pitch and no lower male resonation has returned. I am so thankful for Dr. Spiegel and all of his team. The I went in for the procedure that was 7 staff present and my lead nurse, well he was awesome. All of his staff are wonderful, accepting and caring. Procedure: Voice Feminization Source: Realsel, A.A. 5/20/2020 I've wanted to go to Dr. Spiegel since I was 16 (I'm 34), basically hoping that years down the line he would be able to reveal the face underneath what testosterone did. The reason I was so set on Spiegel was because when I saw befores and afters, his touch seemed gentle enough to retain the general features of their face with a difficult to distinguish but hugely noticeable feminine shift in their face. Carol was rooting for me with insurance; they said they covered FFS but of course she and I both knew it would be a bit of a nightmare to navigate their terrible process and red tape. When I finally got to meet Dr. Spiegel, he was SUCH a sweetheart and we had a lot of laughs. He answered all of my questions thoughtfully and was able to set my mind at ease; even though I was ready to grit my teeth and suffer through whatever, him and his whole staff were such a welcoming and positive crew that it made certain parts of the process so much easier. I am *so* happy with the results; just as I imagined, it was a seemingly slight, subtle shift but my passing percentage has shot up to 100% from the nebulous number it was before. It's stupid that society has this standard for femininity and everyone is BEAUTIFUL however they are, but the negative feedback from being misgendered is a constant reminder of past traumas and isolation. I met with MULTIPLE friends who didn't know I had surgery 3 months afterward and I was trying to fish for a compliment / notice anything different like you would with a new haircut, and they couldn't even tell! Like, it's me! But strangers now see the real me right away, too. I had a trachea shave, jawline contouring, lip augmentation, and brow reduction, and the recovery was pretty brutal, but the amount of mental and emotional relief I continue to receive from that brief period of physical pain is so worth it. I would say pain was BAD BAD for like 2 days, but I didn't even take anything more powerful than ibuprofen after that because it wasn't so bad (I also hate the feeling of opiates). The most noticeable side effect (besides slurping smoothies and soup through a straw for a few weeks while lower lip action came back online) was how TIRED I was, for a good two months. Carole and the team over at the Spiegel Center are wonderful to work with and took care of any fears and concerns I had. Dr. Spiegel is very confident and skilled as a surgeon I had an exam a few months after from an independent speech pathologist and she said Dr. Spiegel's work looked very well put together. I had a noticeable improvement in my pitch my voice went from 110 HZ average to a 190-200 HZ after speech therapy. The surgery wasn't the silver bullet I had hoped for but with speech therapy and practice I have new capabilities I didn't have before with my voice and I pass much better in person without the male undertones. I decided on him based on reading the plenty of positive reviews and also seeing his work done from before and after photos. Ive gone to see him for a rhinoplasty and voice femminization surgery. As a person who absolutely hates flying and I am very terrified of it, I still decided on Dr.Spiegel despite there being plenty of other surgeons on the west coast since I felt his artistry with his surgical skills fit the picture for what I wanted in a surgeon.His staff are absolutely wonderful and caring, nicest people you'll ever meet. And Dr.Spiegel has an air about him that just completely relaxes you when you meet him and talk to him about what you would like to accomplish. He never comes off as pushy or uninterested, he really sees you as a person that he wants to help. Both times I came out of my surgeries with him I had zero pain, if anything the only pain I had was when they first insert the iv in lol. If you're looking for anything FFS related even voice I highly recommend into at least having a consult with Dr.Spiegel. I can go out and not worry about being misgendered thanks to having a deep voice despite how I appear on the outside, and I dont have to have these correcting conversations with strangers every time I say a word. Procedure: Voice Surgery Source: Google I've had the pleasure of having Dr Spiegel perform vocal chords surgery on me in January of 2018. Not being able to talk for 3 weeks is extremely hard!!!! So don't do that, not even a whisper!!! It is now September and its getting better everyday. Was told it sometimes takes about a year for total healing so be patient. Having the surgery has been a lifesaver to me. It softens and feminizes your voice for sure. If your looking for the pitch that comes with therapy and practice. I'm almost there after.
