What Happens During The Surgery?
A breast augmentation happens under general anesthesia and lasts 1-2 hours on average, though this varies from patient to patient. The first step is to make an incision in the most discreet location for the patient’s anatomy, and then lift the breast tissue to insert the implant. The exact placement of the implant is determined by the patient’s body type, and typically those with little breast tissue will have their implants placed under their pectoral muscles.
Next, the implants are adjusted to the correct position on the patient’s chest. Then, the incision is closed with sutures and dressed. At The Spiegel Center, the Keller Funnel modality is often used, which is a low-friction method of placing the implant that avoids contact with the patient’s skin; this greatly reduces scarring and post-operative bruising and swelling.
