Whenever the topic of plastic or cosmetic surgery is mentioned, most people associate it with literally going under the knife in order to change various aspects of their appearances. While this is true in many cases, there are now numerous procedures that can be performed, which are not only non-invasive, but which have become extremely popular over the years.

1. Botox Injections

These are by far the most popular form of non-invasive cosmetic surgery available today, with more than 6 million people opting for them during the last year. This figure shows a rise of approximately 3% when compared with patients who had Botox injections Botox injections during the previous year. Botox can be used to erase fine lines and wrinkles, help patients who suffer from incontinence and even assist in the prevention of migraines.

2. Soft Tissue Fillers

Sometimes referred to as dermal fillers, these substances not only help diminish the appearance of wrinkles; they are also able to help plump the lips and restore fullness and volume to the facial area too. People who are embarrassed by recessed scarring on the body can also benefit from soft tissue fillers. Between 2012 and 2013, the use of this treatment increased by 13%.

3. Chemical Peels

Used to treat some types of acne, sun and age-related wrinkles, freckles, reduce age spots and improve the overall appearance of the skin, the use of chemical peels has increased by a marginal 3% between 2012 and 2013. Patients who have mild facial scarring can also benefit from having this procedure performed.

4. Laser Hair Removal

Most women are embarrassed by the appearance of unwanted facial and body hair. While shaving and waxing can provide temporary solutions to this problem, they are a lot more time-consuming in the long term and will also end up costing a lot more than having laser hair removal performed. This treatment can be used on almost any part of the body where hair growth has become undesirable or difficult to remove. Despite the fact that this treatment is extremely popular, the use of laser hair removal declined by around 4% between 2012 and 2013.

5. Microdermabrasion

This is often used as an alternative to chemical peels and it works by blasting the facial area with micro-particles that remove the top layer of skin. Most people use microdermabrasion to improve skin texture, address mild scarring, even out pigmentation and help reduce the appearance of sun spots. This procedure can also be used on other areas of the body where rough skin or calluses have developed over the years. Between 2012 and 2013, figures for patients who used this procedure remained stable, with close to 1 million people opting for microdermabrasion instead of chemical peels.

Although these procedures may be classified as non-invasive, they may still not be suitable for everyone. Before having any cosmetic surgery performed, it’s important to discuss the risks and potential after-effects with your cosmetic surgeon, as he or she will be able to advise whether a particular treatment will be suitable for you or not.
