What's New

Facial Cosmetic Surgery is one of the most rapidly advancing and dynamic of all areas of medicine. As an academic physician, Dr. Spiegel is always discovering newer, safer, and more effective ways to achieve the best aesthetic results.

Here are some of the newest services available by Dr. Spiegel:

Bone Reconstruction -A recent study published in December 2005 Cosmetic Surgery Times discusses the need for both soft tissue and bone correction for a full cosmetic anti-aging treatment The article is based on findings from an age-related study following changes in the skull for each gender presented at the annual meeting of American Society of Plastic Surgeons in Chicago. As people age their bone volume retracts and not only accentuates the soft tissue sagging and wrinkles caused by sun damage, smoking and age but changes the shape of the face. Dr. Spiegel has extensive experience in bone reconstruction and has seen firsthand the impressive results attainable with these surgeries.

The Pillar™ Palatal Implant System -Restore’s “Pillar Procedure” is an exciting and innovative solution to snoring. Three small implants are placed in the soft palate tissue causing the area to stiffen over time and allow air to move properly during sleep and reduce the vibrating sounds associated with snoring. The procedure only requires an office visit, as Dr. Spiegel is able to place the implants into the soft palate in just a few minutes. Patients typically see an improvement in their snoring after two to four weeks and often see long lasting results allowing for better sleep for themselves and loved ones. www.pillarprocedure.com

ThreadLift™-The ThreadLift™ is an exciting and innovative procedure that offers results similar to a surgical facelift without the downtime, discomfort or scars of actual surgery. This non-invasive procedure takes only about 30 minutes and can be applied to the neck, brow, and cheek and jowl areas. Dr. Spiegel carefully inserts fine threads (some smooth and others that are barbed) underneath the skin using a thin, hollow needle. Once inserted, the barbed threads grasp on to deep tissue fat pads located in the droopy soft-tissue problem areas. When the threads are lifted, the tissue is pulled up and shaped to give the face a rejuvenated appearance. For more information visit their website at www.contourthreads.com.

New Wrinkle Fighting Fillers

You’ve heard a lot about Botox, and may have heard that all sorts of new injectable materials are now available to help fight wrinkles. The truth is that these filler materials have a completely different mode of activity from Botox, and are actually best used in areas where Botox is less desirable – such as around the lips and mouth.

In addition to the common filler materials, such as Zyderm® and Cymetra® (types of collagen), Dr. Spiegel offers the new filler materials including:

Restylane® – this new injectable filler has just recently been approved by the FDA for facial wrinkles. Restylane is a form of hyaluronic acid and can last up to six months.

Radiance® - Dr. Spiegel was one of the first physicians in Massachusetts to offer this material for the treatment of facial folds and wrinkles. Radiance is a form of calcium hydroxylapatite – a natural mineral in an aqueous gel. This material can be injected through a fine needle and provides a soft, natural improvement that can last 2-5 years, or longer!

To find out if one of these New Wrinkle Fighting Fillers is right for you, be sure to contact Dr. Spiegel.
