Each year, thousands of plastic surgery procedures are performed throughout the country, with options such as nose jobs, breast augmentation and facelifts being some of the most popular choices. However, there is another option that is fast gaining popularity as well, which is FFS surgery. In fact, there has recently been a great deal of gossip and discussion about the fact that Bruce Jenner has had this form of surgery performed as well.

What is FFS Surgery?

Also commonly referred to as facial feminization surgery, it consists of a variety of procedures that can help transgender persons or even women who have more masculine facial features to look more feminine. Facial feminization surgery can consist of one or more procedures, such as tracheal shaving, mandible contouring, scalp advancements, brow lifts, chin implants, rhinoplasty, cheek augmentation, jaw shaving and more. Procedures will be performed according to the patient’s requirements.

Bruce Jenner ‘Has Known Since Childhood’

Jenner, a former Olympian and star in keeping up with the Kardashians, had recently revealed his gender reassignment in an interview with ABC’s Diane Sawyer. His words were, “Yes for all intents and purposes, I’m a woman. They see this macho male, but this female side is part of me, it’s who I am. My brain is much more female than it is male…It’s hard for people to understand that, but that’s what my soul is.” He went on to mention that his gender curiosity began back when he was a child and had tried on one of his mom’s dresses. “At the time, I didn’t know why I was doing it besides it just made me feel good,” he stated.

Currently Unsure About Reassignment Surgery

Jenner also mentioned that although he had been undergoing hormone therapy for approximately a year and a half, he was not yet completely certain that he wanted to have reassignment surgery performed just yet. He stated, “I’m me. I’m a person. This is who I am. I’m not stuck in anybody’s body. As of now, I have all the male parts and all that kind of stuff so in a lot of ways we’re different, but we still identify as female. And that’s very hard for Bruce Jenner today. Why? I don’t want to disappoint people.”

Overwhelming Support

Jenner has received an overwhelming amount of support from numerous film stars and other famous people. President and CEO of GLAAD, Sarah Kate Ellis, stated to the Huffington Post, “Today, millions of people learned that someone they know is transgender. By sharing this story, Bruce Jenner has shined a light on what it means to be transgender and live authentically in the face of unimaginable public scrutiny. Though Jenner’s journey is one that is deeply personal, it is also one that will impact and inspire countless people around the world.”

Although there may be many people who have scrutinized or even criticized Jenner’s life-changing decision, this should no longer be the case. Transgender persons should have the freedom to be who they want to be and everyone else should have the integrity to respect that.
