Home » Why More Sleep Can Make You Feel Youthful
These days, more and more people are doing everything possible (or so they think) in order to look younger and more vibrant. However, despite the amount of miracle skin creams and lotions used on a person’s face, nothing is able to help rejuvenate the skin and body more than what getting a good nights’ sleep will.
Research has shown that the skin is able to rejuvenate up to 30 times faster in people who get a decent nights’ sleep on a regular basis than in those who skip sleep in favor of other more exciting activities. Getting at least eight hours of shuteye a night will also make your skin more supple and elastic, meaning that you will be less prone to having dark circles and bags under your eyes. In short, getting enough sleep each night will ensure that your skin is able to exude a youthful glow from the inside out.
The human growth hormone (HGH) is one of the main factors that keep us looking young, and this includes our skin. Although levels of this hormone drop after puberty and adolescence, it has been proven that getting a sufficient amount of sleep each night will help prevent the levels of this essential hormone from dropping too low. Chances are that if your body is experiencing lower than average levels of this hormone, you will more than likely experience saggy skin, which will make you look a lot older than you really are.
A sufficient amount of sleep not only helps your skin and body appear youthful from the outside; it also helps keep your weight under control. Keeping your weight under control means that you are usually able to be more energetic and exercise more than someone who skimps on their daily dose of rest. A person who is slim and energetic is usually also perceived as being more youthful than someone who is overweight and who constantly looks tired and run down due to a lack of sleep.
Although many people think that getting a decent nights’ sleep is as simple as ensuring that you go to bed at a reasonable time, it is not always as simple as this. It’s important to ensure that there are no electronic devices in your bedroom, as these can lead to disturbed sleep patterns. Your bedroom should also not be too warm, as this can lead to you becoming uncomfortable during the night, which will also disrupt your sleep. It is also best to refrain from any form of vigorous exercise for approximately two hours before going to bed, as this can make it more difficult for you to fall asleep as well.
Experts recommend that the best hours for sleeping at night are between 10 pm and 6 am, as these are the hours that the body makes use of to rejuvenate and replenish energy stores.
