Home » 5 Reasons Why a Plastic Surgeon Might Turn you Down as a Client
Although plastic surgery work such as nose jobs, Botox injections and many other cosmetic procedures have become more commonplace than ever, not everyone can be classified as suitable candidates for a number of reasons.
If the overall health condition of your health is poor, your plastic surgeon may refuse to perform any cosmetic procedures on you. This is especially true if you are a smoker, use blood-thinning medication; suffer from bleeding or bruising disorders, heart conditions, high blood pressure and circulatory issues. Before having any procedure performed, you will need to disclose all of your health information with your cosmetic surgeon so that he or she can determine whether or not they will affect the outcome of the procedure or the time you will need to recover afterwards.
More and more teenagers are dissatisfied with their physical appearance, and as a result, are obtaining parental permission to have plastic surgery performed. However, many cosmetic surgeons feel that having these procedures performed at such a young age will set the patient up for a lifetime of plastic surgery procedures. In fact, many surgeons are currently lobbying to have a law brought into effect that would see unnecessary procedures being banned before the age of 18.
Many potential cosmetic surgery candidates have unrealistic expectations, such as trying to change their entire appearance or look many years younger with just a single procedure. However, this is not possible, and in cases where this occurs, the surgeon will usually advise you to reconsider your goals and reasons for wanting to have the surgery performed. Trying to achieve too much with one procedure can lead to botched results as well.
If you are absolutely obsessed with a minor flaw in your appearance, you could be suffering from a condition known as Body Dysmorphic Disorder. For example, you may see a large lump on the end of your nose, which in fact may not even exist. In situations like these, your cosmetic surgeon will normally recommend that you go for counselling instead of having surgery.
Many patients present their surgeons with absurd requests, such as wanting to look exactly the same as a coveted film star. However, most cosmetic surgeons will not perform procedures on patients like these, because their expectations are not only unrealistic; the qualities they admire on their favorite star may not suit their appearance at all.
Before opting for cosmetic surgery, it’s important to ask yourself why you want a particular procedure performed. If you want it done to look like someone else, your reason for having the surgery may be wrong. However, in cases where cosmetic surgery is being considered to correct serious flaws such as scarring from an accident or disease, cosmetic surgeons will usually be more than happy to assist you.
