Home » Why Stress Shows Signs of Aging on the Face
Along with the fact that stress is one of the biggest killer diseases around these days, one of the biggest fears that many people are plagued by is that of looking older than they really are. This is because they then tend to feel inferior to other people who are the same age as they are, but look younger than them. Although stress affects the entire body, one of the very first places that it begins to show on is the facial and neck areas in the form of wrinkles and age sports.
Because stress causes the heart to beat faster, it can result in a host of unpleasant symptoms occurring such as grinding of the teeth while asleep, increased heart rates, strokes, chronic fatigue, insomnia, weight gain, digestive disorders, hypertension and headaches. While it may sound strange, the result of the body operating faster than it should can lead to it ageing faster than it is supposed to. This is because of the fact that all of these symptoms are extremely unhealthy for us because they place a lot of physical stress on our bodies. For example, when we have a headache as a result of being under stress, we frown more than normal which results in the early appearance of wrinkles on the forehead.
Stress causes a lot of people to either not eat or to overeat, which can also lead to premature ageing of the body. When a person loses a lot of weight in a short period of time, it usually shows on the face in the form of wrinkles or dark circles under the eyes. This is also true of people who suffer from insomnia due to stress. A lack of sleep usually means that the body does not have enough time to rejuvenate and restore weakened skin cells. So by helping to eliminate as much unnecessary stress as possible from your routine, you may be able to resolve your insomnia issue as well. Once this is resolved, you will no longer continue to age more than you should.
When placed under a lot of stress, many people resort to looking for an additional ‘crutch’ to help them handle it. Unfortunately, this often comes in the form of excessive alcohol consumption or smoking. While many people don’t associate these habits with premature ageing, they actually play a huge part because of the fact that alcohol and cigarette smoke both cause a person to age a lot faster, especially in the facial area. Alcohol has a severely dehydrating effect on the body which not only affects the internal organs of the body, but also the skin. The chemicals found in cigarettes are very harmful in that they have been shown to accelerate the ageing process, especially in women.
In order to help combat the effects of stress on the face, it is important to ensure that you take as good care of your skin as possible by drinking plenty of pure water and wearing a good quality sunscreen when spending any length of time outdoors.
