Healthy Skin Foods

One of the constants in life is that everybody gets older, but none of us want to look older. Fortunately, there are many good ways to help fight the aging process. Here are the five best foods you can eat to help keep your skin looking young and healthy.

Salmon

This pink and delicious fish contains a high amount of Omega-3 fatty acids, which is “good fat” that can provide you with smoother skin. Additionally, salmon is high in vitamins A, B, and D. A shortage of any of those vitamins can leave your skin flaky and peeling in dry weather. The fish oil in salmon is a natural source of vitamin E, which is one of the most important vitamins for good skin. Salmon can be cooked or prepared raw with sushi. No matter how it is prepared, it is delicious and great for your skin.

Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes, also known as yams, are a common Thanksgiving dish that you might want to consider adding to your diet on a year-round basis. Sweet potatoes contain high amounts of beta carotene which is what gives the orange vegetables their color. In a human being, beta carotene can protect skin against the ravages of sun damage. If you plan on going sun bathing, consider eating some sweet potatoes first.

Grapes

Grapes are terrifically healthy for a number of reasons. They provide protection against heart attacks and have high amounts of dietary fiber. They are also rich in polyphenols, which help to strengthen collagen in the body. By strengthening that protein, grapes help to reduce sagging in skin due to age. As you get older, you should consider adding grapes as a regular part of your diet if you want to keep your skin looking young.

Oranges

While all citrus fruit has benefits to your skin, oranges are special in that every part of them can be used to make you look and feel younger. The high vitamin C content of oranges helps improve skin texture and color, reducing liver spots and other blemishes. You can also use the peel to help your body. By drying orange peels out in the sun and then grinding them, you can use them as a scrub or mix them with milk cream to make a face cream. This transfers the vitamin C directly to your skin.

Red Bell Peppers

Red bell peppers are tasty and versatile. They have a high vitamin C content and provide nutrients that can strengthen collagen. In addition to preventing sagging, these peppers can protect cells from damage caused by free radicals in your body. This can decrease the number of wrinkles you have as you age. Red bell peppers are also a “free” food that is so low in calorie content that you can eat as much as you want, making them a great snack on the go.

By looking for foods that are high in vitamins and beta carotene, you can keep your skin looking healthy and young for a very long time. Eat your way to a healthier skin and a younger look by choosing your foods wisely.
